onderful Indonesia Generation (GenWI), an international community of Indonesian students who live abroad, has launched another branch in Bangkok, Thailand.
The inauguration event was held on Nov. 19 at Central World Mall, Bangkok and initiated by Permitha (Indonesian Students Association in Thailand). GenWI Thailand has one mission: To create a social media presence in Thailand.
“We are proud and happy to be taking part in promoting Wonderful Indonesia from Thailand. Together with GenPI we are going to promote [Wonderful Indonesia] wholeheartedly,” said GenWI Thailand head, Wahyu Manggala.
“This is similar to Indonesian Charms Generation (GenPI), if GenPI produces photos, videos, graphs, stories about tourist destinations and calendar of events, GenWI helps promote them overseas. The main market of GenWI is international tourists,” said Tourism Ministry’s secretary, Ukus Kuswara.
With everything is going digital nowadays, the presence of both GenWI and GenPI are highly needed for the tourism industry.
“That’s why we need GenPI in Indonesia and GenWI for overseas countries. These are communities who are active on social media and ready to promote Indonesia tourism from their place,” Ukus added.
Moreover, the Ministry's communication department special staff Don Kardono mentioned several benefits of joining the GenWI community “First is networking, second is becoming an online travel agent that sells tour packages. From there, GenWI can promote and sell tourist destinations in Indonesia,” said Don. (asw)
