West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) province is set to hold the first Hijab Run sports event on December 10.
Participants will run for three kilometers, passing through villages in Ampenan Old Town, Mataram.
The starting point will be at Jangkar Park whilst the finish line is either at Ampenan Beach area or back to Jangkar Park.
While running, participants will be asked to pick up trash that they find on the streets.
Ampenan Old Town is home to various tribes and ethnic groups such as Sasak, Banjar, Arab and Chinese.
NTB tourism department head Muhammad Faozal said that the department is targeting 10,000 participants for the event and aiming to break the MURI Record that is currently held by Padang.
Padang managed to attract 7,500 participants for the same event.
“Hijab Run 2017 will be one of the icons for the sport tourism in NTB that has been associated with halal tourism,” said Faozal. (asw)
