T

he Tourism Ministry participated in last week’s Vietnam International Travel Mart (VITM) 2018, an event held at the Hanoi International Center for Exhibition from Thursday to Sunday.

The move was part of its efforts to promote the “Wonderful Indonesia” brand abroad, as well as to reach the targeted 20 million foreign tourists by 2019.

VITM is a business-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B) event allowing participants to sell package tours directly to consumers or engage in cooperation with tourism players from Vietnam or other countries.

The ministry reportedly brought seven tourism companies from Yogyakarta and Bali to the event, including travel agents and hoteliers. It also promoted Yogyakarta, Bali and West Nusa Tenggara by providing information on these destinations and ready-to-sell products and tourism packages for foreign tourists.

Aside from business activities, the Indonesian booth at VITM 2018 also offered tourism information services, coffee and a refreshment corner, 360-degree virtual reality video, a batik corner, games and gift redemption.

According to a statement received by The Jakarta Post on Tuesday, the ministry also conducted a Lake Toba sales event at the Apricot Hotel in Hanoi on Monday, where it collaborated with 10 travel agents, hoteliers and 20 Vietnamese outbound buyers.

"The VITM and sales mission in Hanoi served as an opportunity to promote our priority tourist destinations, such as Lake Toba, as well as the Wonderful Indonesia calendar of events 2018, which includes the Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta and Palembang," said the ministry's assistant undersecretary for Marketing Development Region I, Masruroh, in the statement.
