The Lembata administration will hold on Sept. 22-29 the Festival Tiga Gunung, or Festival of Three Mountains, to highlight three mountains in the regency of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
The Ile Lewotolok, Ile Batubara and Ile Weru mountains are all popular tourist destinations.
“The uniqueness of Lembata’s natural environment has the potential to attract tourists,” I Gde Pitana, the Tourism Ministry's first deputy of marketing development, said on Monday during a promotional event for the festival in Jakarta.
Lembata Regent Eliaser Yentji Sunur said this was the first time the administration was holding such a festival. "Festival Tiga Gunung seeks to be a new brand for Lembata tourism,” Eliaser said, as quoted by kompas.com.
The festival will offer visitors a series of events, including the Lembata Umbrella Festival, International Paragliding Festival, the Ile Ape Nut Party, the Volcano Football Exhibition and the 2018 NTT Fashion Carnival.
Lembata can be reached by domestic flights, departing from Kupang and arriving at Lembata's Wonopito Airport. The airport is located 2 kilometers from Lewuleba Port, which will be one of the festival's venues.
Local boats are available to explore the nearby islands, some of which will be hosting the festival's events. (wir/kes)
