The Moyo Satonda National Park will be promoted as a tourist trademark of Sumbawa while also strengthening conservation efforts in the area.
he West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Tourism Agency has thrown its support behind the plan to establish the islands of Moyo and Satonda, located off the northern coast of Sumbawa Island, as a national park.
The Moyo Satonda National Park will be promoted as a tourist trademark of Sumbawa while also strengthening conservation efforts in the area.
“As a destination brand, it will greatly influence our tourist market,” NTB Tourism Agency head Lalu Mohammad Faozal told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.
Faozal added that with the national park, Moyo Island and Satonda Island will be linked under one management for better organization and access to the islands.

Chairul Mahsul, assistant in economy and development for NTB’s provincial secretary, added: “We hope the park will be officiated by President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo during the Sail Moyo Tambora event in September.”
The NTB provincial administration and the NTB Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) pitched the idea of establishing the Moyo Satonda National Park to the Environment and Forestry Ministry. The two islands have already been designated as Nature Tourism Parks organized by the BKSDA.
Moyo Island is famous for its natural sites and has been visited by notable figures from around the world, including the late Princess Diana.
Meanwhile, Satonda Island is known for its crater lake and sandy white beaches. (wng)
