ational flag carrier Garuda Indonesia’s low-cost subsidiary, Citilink, is slated to open a direct route from Jakarta to Labuan Bajo at the end of October.

Citilink Indonesia vice president of corporate social responsibility (CSR), Ranty Astari Rachman, was quoted by kompas.com as saying that the new route was meant to support tourism.

“We know that Labuan Bajo is a world-class tourist destination. The new route opening marks Citilink’s support for the development of national tourism. We hope this new route will help improve travelers’ access to Labuan Bajo,” said Ranty in a press release delivered to KompasTravel on Saturday.

Citilink’s inaugural flight from Jakarta to Labuan Bajo is to take off at 12 p.m. on Oct. 29 and arrive at Komodo airport at about 3:20 p.m. Meanwhile, the flight from Labuan Bajo is scheduled for departure at 3:50 p.m and arrival at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport at about 5:05 p.m.

The route is to be served daily with new Airbus A320 aircraft seating 180 passengers.

Labuan Bajo is a top-priority tourist destination for the government, alongside a number of other destinations like Lake Toba, Borobudur temple and Mandalika.

Ranty also explained that the number of tourist visits to Labuan Bajo had grown and could be further improved. (mut)
