akarta, June 2, 2021 -- BRI Ventures closed the first batch of its start-up accelerator program titled Sembrani Wira, through a virtual demo day held on May 25. The demo day can also be viewed on the BRI Ventures YouTube channel, which features eight start-ups that have graduated from the two-month coaching program. The eight start-ups are Gredu, GajiGesa, Brick, MYCL, Minapoli, Biteship, Cooklab and Tumbasin. After passing the accelerator program, three start-ups received further funding from leading investors and two start-ups inked strategic collaborations in the form of synergy with Bank BRI.
Consisting of a series of mentoring, coaching and evaluation programs, the Sembrani Wira accelerator encourages every start-up to unleash its maximum potential in eight weeks. During the program, which has been running since last February, BRI Ventures has presented digital industry leaders in Indonesia as mentors, industry experts and coaches, including the CEO of Bukalapak, Rachmat Kaimuddin, CEO of Good Doctor, Danu Wicaksana and CEO of Investree, Adrian Gunadi, as well as other industry leaders.
VP of Investment and Business Development of BRI Ventures, Markus Liman Rahardja, in the opening of the accelerator demo day said “Sembrani Wira is an accelerator designed to facilitate start-up founders to be better prepared to face various obstacles and challenges in the development of their company. From this first batch, we noticed three interesting things in today’s start-up industry. First, we have entered the second generation of the development of the digital start-up ecosystem in Indonesia, where the founders are getting ready and the products offered are improving. Second, in the early stages, it is important for founders to also get the right support to unleash their full potential. Third, the importance of building a strong narrative for start-ups, where having a good product is currently only the minimum standard and will not be enough without an interesting story. So during this program, we also encourage all founders to create interesting start-up stories and convey them appropriately.”
On the same occasion, the CEO of BRI Ventures, Nicko Widjaja, said “It is an honor for us to be able to learn and work with the founders of this first batch of accelerators. Where we see that this batch is one of the best batches in the digital start-up industry today.” Nicko added that BRI Ventures through the motto value over valuation for the generations of entrepreneurs to come, will continue to carry out various initiatives to support start-up founders and encourage the development of the digital start-up ecosystem in Indonesia.
The Sembrani Wira Accelerator is a BRI Ventures initiative program that aims to provide guidance and open access to early-stage start-ups in Indonesia. Taken from Sanskrit, Wira means knight. Uniquely, the word Wira is also the root of the word “entrepreneur”. In line with this, this program is expected to be a way to accelerate digital knights in Indonesia so that they can become leaders in the digital industry.
In this first batch, BRI Ventures collaborated with a leading fintech company, Fazz Financial Group and a venture capital company, Prasetia Dwidharma, as operating partners. In June, BRI Ventures will open registration for the second batch of Sembrani Wira accelerators.
