T Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM), in collaboration with Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) and state-owned pawnbroker Pegadaian, held a workshop on financial literacy for PNM Mekaar customers on April 19, 2022 in Medan, North Sumatra. The hybrid event was attended by 23,000 customers in 62 cities across the country.
The financial literacy workshop is an integral part of PNM’s commitment to mentor and personally engage with micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The training workshop provided by PNM Mekaar Medan is expected to arm MSMEs with the knowledge to help develop their businesses further.
The PNM workshop is intended to provide intellectual capital for its customers and is part of its efforts to support the growth of ultra-micro businesses and MSMEs through financial, intellectual and social capital.
Financial capital is provided through business financing while intellectual capital is provided through mentoring programs, which includes training, information and sharing sessions. Meanwhile, social capital is provided through PNM’s efforts to develop customer awareness through business networks and synergy to accelerate business growth.
Financial literacy is a basic skill that all entrepreneurs need to avoid financial problems.
At the recent workshop, which was under strict health protocols, PNM Mekaar customers learned the how-tos of managing finances and navigating banking products, especially savings.
BRI also used the occasion to open accounts under the Simpedes UMi (rural savings for ultra micro communities) program, which includes built-in financing products and new services for PNM Mekaar customers, for all 23,000 participants.
By optimally using PNM Mekaar financing products, Simpedes UMi savings facilities and increasing their financial literacy, PNM Mekaar customers are expected to expand their business in a broader, more measurable way.
As of April 19, 2022, PNM has disbursed Rp 123.02 trillion to 11.8 million PNM Mekaar customers. PNM currently has 3,673 offices that serve MSMEs in 34 provinces, 443 regencies and cities and 5,006 districts across the archipelago.
