Customs and Excise contributes to the MXGP event a success in Sumbawa

T

he Motor Cross Grand Prix (MXGP) was held in the Rocket Circuit of Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara this month. The Customs and Excise agency contributed to the success of the event, in terms of facilitation and providing adequate services.

The customs in Soekarno Hatta International Airport and Sumbawa joined forces to provide temporary import facilities using the ATA Carnet and physical inspection outside the customs area of goods needed for competition.

“ATA Carnet is an international customs document which also applies as a guarantee for import duties and taxes in the context of imports. ATA Carnet works on a similar principle as a passport that can be used for the entry and exit of goods, using the same ATA Carnet document,” explained head of the Sumbawa Customs Office, Agustyan Umardani, regarding the ATA Carnet facility. He added that the use of the facility is regulated in the Minister of Finance regulation number PMK 228/PMK.04/2014.

On July 26, customs also did a physical inspection of all the equipment needed and utilized from the MXGP after the race was over. The prestigious competition was a three-day event, starting from July 24 and ending on the inspection day.

“The inspection is carried out together with each racer team and representatives from importers. After the inspection is complete, all goods are attached with security signs before finally being sent to Jakarta for later re-export," Agustyan added.

The support and facility provided by the Customs and Excise agency of Sumbawa regarding the 12th MXGP event can be seen as an implementation of the customs function as a trade facilitator. Hopefully, similar events can improve the economy in Sumbawa by supporting MSMEs in the region, moving forward.
