G Electronics (LG) has established a new research and development (R&D) center in Indonesia as part of the company's commitment to strengthen the global positioning of its TV products, particularly in Asia.
Park Hyoung-sei, President of Home Entertainment at LG, said during the R&D Center’s grand opening that the facility was a new step forward for the electronics giant.
“This allows us to better reach consumers through a one-stop operation that easily connects all steps of the supply chain, from product development to user service,” said Park.
In conjuction with the grand opening, Lee So-yeoun was appointed as the head of the LG R&D Center in Indonesia.
The new center is located on the premises of the LG factory in Cibitung, Bekasi, West Java, where it provides support to the TV production facility of LG’s local subsidiary, LG Electronics Indonesia, which also has a sales and marketing head office in Jakarta.
According to Park, the new R&D center will play a key role in optimizing the company’s local operations to strengthen the position of LG TVs in Asia and the company's foothold in the global TV market.
"This facility will also be a testing ground for LG's latest innovations, which will become part of TV development for the global market," he added.
Park also noted that LG R&D Center’s establishment in Indonesia was in line with the direction of the company’s CEO, William Cho, who emphasized during a visit to Indonesia in April the importance of fully localized business operations to realize across-the-board excellence in quality, cost and delivery.
Among its many roles, the LG R&D Center in Indonesia will oversee all research projects related to TV products intended for the global market. At the same time, it is to play a role in developing new LG TV products for the rapidly growing market in Asia, especially Indonesia.
The establishment of the R&D center in Cibitung is the culmination of a plan dating back to 2021 on creating such a facility for LG Electronics Indonesia. This included forming a new team under the company’s Home Entertainment business line that specializes in developing and marketing home entertainment products and devices.
LG plans to hire more professionals to support the various research projects at its new R&D center, with an aim to increase the number of the center’s employees to 500 by 2025. The company also plans to strengthen its ties with local universities and launch collaborative projects with industry and educational institutions to find new talent in specialized fields.
"Opening a separate research and development center in Indonesia is the culmination of these efforts, and will serve as a launchpad for the company's latest innovations for the global market," Park underlined.
