Mitsubishi Introduces New Compact SUV, The Mitsubishi XFORCE, at GIIAS 2023

n the Aug. 10, 2023, during the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show, Mitsubishi Motors unveiled a new compact SUV, the Mitsubishi XFORCE. Carrying the tagline Infinite Xcitement, this new model has been specifically crafted for the ASEAN market and is produced in the Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Indonesia plant in Bekasi, West Java.
A five-seater compact SUV, the Mitsubishi X-FORCE is designed to be the best-suited buddy for an exciting life. Offering a balance of three integral design pillars; excitement, comfort and practicality, the SUV provides a slew of utility features such as a spacious interior with various storage compartments, a sleek compact body, excellent handling and best-in-class comfort.
Mitsubishi President and Chief Executive Officer Takao Kato stated the following during a press conference at the event.
"In addition to ensuring driving performance, ease of handling, a comfortable interior, ease of use of various features and everything demanded of a compact SUV, we have poured our hearts and souls into the development of the XFORCE to bring daily driving excitement to our customers."
He then reiterated that the SUV was developed to meet the needs of drivers in the ASEAN region and has undergone repeated testing in the region’s environment. Additionally, he mentioned that Mitsubishi hopes that the Mitsubishi XFORCE will become the perfect companion for every adventure that drivers want to undertake, enabling them to go further and experience something new.
President Director of PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia (MMKS), elaborated.
"The need for this segment is triggered by emotional factors such as social status, personality and prestigious image. However, functional factors such as comprehensive features, comfort and safety, as well as strong vehicle performance, are also essential elements in choosing a vehicle that can support daily activities as well as recreation and social interaction.”
He shared the sentiment of Takao Kato, stating that he hopes the introduction of the Mitsubishi XFORCE will redefine the compact SUV market in Indonesia, aligning with customer demand for a vehicle that accommodates a futuristic, prestigious and comfortable style while also receiving optimal after-sales services. They hope the XFORCE will emulate the success that Mitsubishi experienced when it introduced the Xpander to the Small MPV market in Indonesia back in 2017.
The Mitsubishi XFORCE is equipped with a a myriad of features to provide the best riding experience for its passengers. The interior comes in either mélange and mocha or premium black, the seats of the vehicle also utilize a temperature rise reduction feature through their high-tech artificial leather. Furthermore, the XFORCE is fitted with eight Dynamic Sound Yamaha Premium speakers, the result of a collaboration between Mitsubishi and Yamaha, providing high fidelity audio performance.
Another noteworthy aspect of the interior is the intuitive dashboard displays, with a 31-centimeter multimedia screen and a 20-cm digital drive display, these screens are the largest offerings from Mitsubishi. Fully equipped with smartphone link utilities such as Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and WebLink, the connectivity functions are an unprecedented feature from Mitsubishi. Additionally, the 20-cm display is fully customizable, capable of highlighting whatever crucial driving information the driver selects.
As for the exterior and performance of the compact SUV, the Mitsubishi XFORCE features a refresh of the iconic Mitsubishi headlights and taillights, while utilizing a new Dynamic Shield. The vehicle is also designed with a sturdy proportion, with best-in-class ground clearance that puts it in line with other fully fledged SUV’s, making it capable of handling obstacles of up to 222 mm with a turning radius of 5.2 meters, adaptable to any environment in the ASEAN region. Additionally, the XFORCE has a higher-than-average approach and departure angle which elevates the safety features of the vehicle.
The XFORCE is also equipped with the reliable 4A91 engine, which was also used in the XPANDER. However, the CVT control of the engine has been significantly refined. The compact SUV also provides best-in-class passive safety and collision safety features, utilizing Mitsubishi’s latest technology. Features such as the blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert notify the driver of their surrounding environment and of any approaching cars or pedestrians, through the XFORCE’s numerous ultrasonic sensors. It is also worth mentioning that the XFORCE provides high eye height, achieved by the vehicle’s high ground clearance, giving the driver optimal visibility for a safer and more comfortable driving experience.
The Mitsubishi XFORCE offers four driving modes that drivers can switch to based on their driving environment, including normal, wet, gravel and mud, providing them with the safest driving experience for any condition. Moreover, the Mitsubishi XFORCE is equipped with a new well-tuned suspension, making the car more than capable of powering through the roughest terrain, while simultaneously providing comfort and stability for its passengers.
