he Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) program Energy Independent Village (DEB) by Pertamina received an award in the environment category at the Republika Anugera CSR 2023 event.
The award was presented by Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry secretary general Dadan Kusdiana and Republika director Nur Hasan Murtiaji to Pertamina corporate secretary Brahmantya S. Poerwadi at the JS Luwansa Hotel Ballroom on Oct. 28.
Pertamina corporate secretary Brahmantya S. Poerwadi said the "Desa Energi Berdikari" program provided access to renewable energy as a solution to the increasing energy needs of the community. In its implementation, Pertamina collaborates with various community elements because it believes that clean and accessible energy will pave the way for economic development and community empowerment toward sustainability.
"Through the Energy Independent Village, together with Pertamina, communities can support the energy transition and the government's net-zero emissions [goal] while also creating energy and economic self-reliance," said Brahmantya.
As of October of this year, 76 Energy Independent Village programs have been successfully implemented throughout Indonesia, and there is potential for further expansion by the end of 2023. Of the 76 programs currently running, 57 utilize solar power plants, four use micro hydropower utilizing water flow, two use biodiesel energy converted from household waste, 12 utilize methane and biogas and one program uses a hybrid solar and wind power plant.
The Energy Independent Village program has generated more than 249 KWh of energy per year and 609,000 m3 of biogas per year. It has also contributed to reducing carbon emissions by more than 714,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent per year. Currently, 4,113 households are benefiting from the program and creating a multiplier effect of up to Rp 1.9 billion per year.
The program has received prestigious awards both at the national and international levels. At the national level, these awards include the CSR Award, the Anugerah CSR award and the Fortune Indonesia Change The World Award. Meanwhile, international awards such as the CSR Excellence Award and World Petroleum Council Excellence Award were also received.
Pertamina's Energy Independent Village program aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG seven (clean and affordable energy), SDG eight (decent work and economic growth) and SDG 13 (climate action), as well as the government's target to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060.
