he National Peatland and Mangrove Restoration Agency (BRGM) was bestowed the Gold Medal of the Bhumandala Kanaka Award in the Ministry/Institution category at the Bhumandala Award 2023, held on Nov. 6 at Hotel Discovery Kartika Plaza Bali in South Kutai, Badung regency. This year’s Bhumandala Award marked its ninth edition since the inaugural ceremony in 2014 by the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG).
The award is given in recognition of ministries, institutions and regional administrations for their efforts in developing geospatial information nodes.
This year’s ceremony included the Bhumandala Kanaka, Bhumandala Rajata and Bhumandala Ariti awards covering the four categories of Ministry/Institution, Province, Regency and Mayoralty.
BIG head Muhammad Aris Marfai opened the ceremony by saying: “On behalf of Geospatial Information Agency, we express our gratitude to [...] and congratulate to all participants of the Bhumandala Award for their remarkable achievements. We hope that all Bhumandala [Award] 2023 participants will serve as a source of inspiration and make concrete contributions to developing the use of geospatial information in Indonesia.”
The award aims to motivate, inspire, strengthen and encourage while offering a means to expand the horizons of geospatial information use, or both the central and regional administrations.
The Bhumandala Award 2023 is themed “Innovation of Applications for Utilizing Geospatial Indonesian Data and Data”, and reviewed apps that use geospatial data and information across networks, and included their role and impact on decision-making. This year’s awards also carried the subthemes “Toponymic Names” and “Geospatial Information on Village Borders”.
BRGM earned a gold medal for its Peatland Restoration Information Management System (PRIMS) in its second year of participating in the awards. PRIMS excels in providing comprehensive data and information related to peatland restoration, from planning, implementation and mangrove rehabilitation to monitoring and evaluation.
PRIMS also provides supporting policy data for Indonesia’s Forestry and Other Land Use (FOLU) Net Sink 2030 program on the peatland management ecosystem and increasing carbon stocks.
“Diversity and data quality in PRIMS have increasingly developed and PRIMS has now become an increasingly reliable information management, especially to support the peatland restoration and mangrove rehabilitation works,” BRGM head Hartono said during the award ceremony.
Hartono also expressed his appreciation for all partners that had consistently supported the BRGM in developing PRIMS. In particular, he thanked the Agriculture Ministry, the Agrarian Reform and Spatial Planning Ministry, the Education, Culture, Research and Technology Ministry, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), as well as regional administrations, universities, nongovernmental organizations as well as the public.
He underlined that the BRGM was committed to developing the PRIMS app in line with ongoing developments in information technology and related needs.
