Art Jakarta Gardens returns for 2024 in April

A

rt Jakarta Gardens, the annual open-air contemporary art fair, is returning this year from April 23 to 28 amid the lush greenery of Hutan Kota by Plataran in Central Jakarta.

Marking its third edition, Art Jakarta Gardens 2024 will showcase a total of 23 galleries along with 30 outdoor sculptures and installations, offering visitors a mesmerizing creative experience that seamlessly blends art and nature.

Art Jakarta Gardens 2024 opens on April 23 with a VIP-only event, and then is open to the general public starting from April 24.

Featuring its signature program the Sculpture Garden, the open-air art fair will exhibit works from outstanding Indonesian artists across the generations, from modern master G. Sidharta to famed sculptor Nyoman Nuarta, as well as young experimental artists like Dian Hardiansyah.

In addition, this year’s Art Jakarta Gardens will host the Special Presentations program to highlight collaborations by its partners and artists.

For example, digital investment app Bibit will present Bandung-based multidisciplinary artist Erwin Windu Pranata’s The Bouquet: Fall and Grow, a site-specific inflatable sculpture inspired by explorations in his own garden.

Meanwhile, Indonesia’s first licensed gold trading app Treasury will present Naufal Abshar’s Gold is King, a specially created installation featuring a limited edition gold coin he designed, which encapsulates the precious metal’s enduring primacy.

Xiaomi will present Davy Linggar, one of the country’s most celebrated photography artists. Introducing its new flagship product Xiaomi 14, which features a camera co-engineered with Leica, the global tech company will exhibit 14 photographic pieces by Davy in a unique outdoor display.

Telecommunications infrastructure and business-to business internet service provider iForte will present Tomy Hersata’s We Hear You’re Here and There. A spatial sound installation containing interactive elements that reflect the fragmented reality of our digital age, this artwork calls on humanity to contemplate our collective journey through the turbulent seas of information as it reminds us of the power and pitfalls of a connected world.

Bathroom products leader Roca has collaborated with this/PLAY art studio to present Bathing is Fair, a multisensory installation inspired by The Death of Marat (1793) by French painter Jacques-Louis David, Fountain (1917) by French painter-sculptor Marcel Duchamp and The Art of Painting (1668) by Dutch master Johannes Vermeer that tries to capture the essence of solitude amid chaos.

Art Jakarta Gardens will also be presenting an eye-opening performance art by multidisciplinary artist Monica Hapsari and her friends, as well as a special music performance curated and organized by RURUradio Lounge.

In this creative collaboration presented by the Bakti Budaya Djarum Foundation, RURUradio Lounge will broadcast selected playlists and stage a live music performance over the weekend on April 27 and 28, featuring artists such as White Shoes and the Couples Company, Prontaxan, Keroncong Musyawarah, Rani Jambak, Lair, Lorjhu’ and Oomleoberkaraoke.

Tickets are available from April 2 on the Art Jakarta Gardens website (artjakarta.com), powered by Tix Events.
