ndonesia is set to host the 19th Intelligent Transport System (ITS) Asia Pacific Forum, which aims to encourage continuous improvements in the national transportation system.
Held every two years, the forum will take place from May 28 to 30 at the Jakarta Convention Center, and will convene representatives of ministers and leaders of international organizations in the High-Level Roundtable.
The resulting "Chair's Statement on Transformation toward Sustainable and Intelligent Urban Mobility" will be carried out by representatives from attending countries such as the United States, United kingdom, Australia, Canada, China, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Malaysia and Singapore, as well as international organizations such as UNESCAP, ASEAN, World Bank, Asian Development Bank and European Investment Bank.
In addition, the ITS Asia Pacific Forum will also bring together global governments, industry players and experts in the transportation industry, including the transportation ministers of Singapore, Japan and Korea.
Complementing cooperation among countries, the forum will also launch the "Jakarta Initiative on Sustainable and Intelligent Urban Mobility", a collaboration between domestic stakeholders from the business world represented by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), transportation associations represented by ITS Indonesia and ITS Asia Pacific and the global civil society alliance represented by the 5P Global Movement.
More than 1,000 delegates are expected to attend the three-day forum to participate in plenary and special interest session activities, business forums and academic forums, as well as technology exhibitions to encourage investment and implementation in the field of intelligent and sustainable transportation in Indonesia and Asia Pacific.
One of the technologies that is attractive is cable car units, which can be implemented in Indonesia as an alternative form of transportation for community mobility. Apart from that, there will also be electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem innovations that will be exhibited by domestic companies.
To encourage the widespread use of EVs, the 2024 ITS Asia Pacific Forum will also serve as the start of the "Electric Mobility Road to COP 29" initiative in Baku, Azerbaijan, which will feature a convoy of EVs heading from Jakarta to Rome, Italy before finally ending in Baku, ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29).
By demonstrating the feasibility and practicality of long-distance EV travel, the project aims to accelerate the transition to a more sustainable transportation future.
