Tencent Cloud helps Indonesian enterprises enter China market with unique C2B capability

lobal businesses looking to expand their reach have set their sights on key markets like China. Indonesian businesses seeking to gain access to China’s competitive business environment will require a strategic partner, preferably one possessing both experience and solutions.

Tencent Cloud, the cloud services brand of world-leading internet value-added services provider Tencent, is one of the preferred partners for many overseas businesses to enter the China market. With more than a decade of experience alongside a strong infrastructure and network, Tencent Cloud aims to provide Indonesian customers with high-performing, easy-to-maintain, intelligent, and flexible cloud services.

In a recent interview, The Jakarta Post spoke with Tencent Cloud International Senior Vice President Poshu Yeung, who highlighted that Tencent Cloud’s business growth has surged in 2020 and remains strong in 2021, booking over 100 percent Year-on-Year growth in overseas business growth.

Currently, Tencent Cloud categorizes its focus in two solutions: “China Connect”, where the company assists enterprises from around the world in entering the Chinese market; and “Go Global”, supporting Chinese businesses by serving as a bridge to the international market.

“With extensive experience in the Chinese market, Tencent Cloud has a deep understanding of Chinese consumers’ needs, as well as solid capabilities which aim to help enterprises land businesses in China through every step under our one-stop China Connect solution,” Yeung explained.

“In short, our ability to provide one-stop cloud solutions for enterprises and businesses to expand their footprint in China also contributes to our service’s rise too.”

“I’d like to use the cookie-cutter vs. brick toy analogy. Instead of providing ‘cookie-cutter’ solutions, we are actually offering things with more characteristics. We talk to our customers and business partners, listen to what they need like a consultancy partner, try to come up with the right solutions for them, and even customize our solutions to fit what they want or need,” he said.

“It’s like building using brick toys. You tell me what you want. What is the characteristic you want? What is the style you want? We'll pick the right color and the right blocks and do it for you.”

At the same time, Tencent Cloud has started to expand its footprint to Indonesia, where it established its first Internet Data Center (IDC) in the country in April 2021 and plans to establish a second IDC in the near future.

According to Yeung, the decision is based on Indonesia’s rapidly growing market.  A report by Boston Consulting Group (BCG), highlighted Indonesia’s status as one of the fastest growing public cloud markets in Asia Pacific with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 25 percent, and is expected to be worth $0.8 billion by 2023.

“After we established our first Internet Data Center (IDC) in Indonesia in April 2021, we found that local businesses across industries and fields have shown significant interest in utilizing the industry-leading cloud offerings the new infrastructure has brought about in the region,” he said.

Yeung noted that the new IDCs will enable Tencent Cloud to get closer to its Indonesian customers and users, reducing access delays to data and applications and helping businesses and organizations accelerate their digital transformation. The company currently counts Bank Neo Commerce, Bank Mega and JOOX among its customers, fulfilling the growing need for cloud services in Indonesia and the region.

He also highlighted the strong growth and potential in financial services, e-commerce, pan-entertainment, audio & video businesses, and gaming industries, with Tencent Cloud expecting to contribute to these particular segments.

“We will also continue to utilize our comprehensive cloud offerings on Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) cloud infrastructure, Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) to assist digitalization for public services and traditional industries. Enhancements to our technology and product development supported broad customer adoption of our platform and software services such as security, AI, and data analytic services,” he said.

Tencent Cloud boasts more than 300 cloud solutions and products across the region, and its growing infrastructure network that now spans across 27 regions and 68 availability zones. The company’s extensive content delivery network has over 2,800 global acceleration nodes across more than 70 countries and regions, offering a combined bandwidth of over 200 Tbps.

According to Yeung, Tencent Cloud prides itself on its Consumer-to-Business (C2B) approach, noting that it is an important strategy and a core strength in advancing the industrial Internet.

On the consumer side, Tencent owns major social platforms WeChat, Weixin and QQ, which reach more than one billion users and can provide valuable local market knowledge as well as operational experience. Tencent’s C-side experience and capabilities have proven valuable for companies entering the market. For example, the company provides connectors such as Weixin Official Accounts, Mini Programs, digital payment services and WeCom (enterprise version of Weixin), so that enterprises can better serve users, improve the efficiency of supply and demand matching, and finally realise the closed loop of C2B2C.

“We aim to lower the threshold for enterprises to connect with users, offer more online and offline resources, and cover a larger market. Our unique C2B advantage and strategy create value to enterprises by leveraging Tencent’s unique digital ecosystem, which is well-integrated with our cloud computing offerings, ultimately bringing a better service experience to our users, especially for those enterprises who are looking to expand their business in the China market.”

Going forward, Tencent Cloud will strive to strengthen business support teams and partnerships in local markets by establishing a comprehensive cloud partner ecosystem and strengthening the company’s partner networks, including reseller partners, development partners, services providers, and consulting partners.
