T

anri Abeng, former State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister, has lashed out at state-run utility firm PLN over what he deemed a wrong mindset on business efficiency.

“PLN, just like many SOEs, is a monopoly. The monopoly mindset [should have allowed PLN to] focus on exercising leverage rather than striving for efficiency,” he said, in response to PLN panel discussion at the 4th Indonesia Human Capital Summit 2023 in Jakarta.

Since the firm does not necessarily have to compete as private firms do, Tanri argued that PLN should instead have an overhaul of the culture and mindset within the firm.

“We need to learn how to swiftly shift our mindset, and I believe this indicates a distinct cultural belief,” he emphasized.

He then questioned, “So, what is the culture of PLN?”
