T

he government is hoping to conclude the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU CEPA) in its 19th round of negotiations, which is set to take place in July this year.

Edi Prio Pambudi, undersecretary for international economic cooperation at the Office of the Coordinating Economic Minister said both parties had concluded their 18th round of negotiations in May, which he deemed significant progress.

“We hope with this 19th round, [the negotiations] can be concluded,” Edi said in a media briefing on Thursday, as quoted from Antara.

Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan told reporters on Friday that Indonesia could conclude the negotiations within the remaining term of the outgoing government, which will end in Oct. 20.

Zulkifli, however, is optimistic efforts can be made as early as in June to wrap up the negotiations.
