P

resident Prabowo Subianto has announced his desire for all top-level government officials to switch to a domestically made military vehicle for official purposes.

“I plan that most likely all ministers, all deputy ministers, directors-general officials maybe at the level of governors, regents, mayors, should use domestically made vehicles,” he said in a press statement on Monday.

He was referring to the Maung, a 4x4 SUV produced by state-owned arms manufacturer PT Pindad and expressed his pride in using locally produced vehicles and adding that he “liked the bright color” of the Pindad-made Maung.

Prabowo showcased the car on Oct. 20, the day of his inauguration as president, causing a stir on social media.

Deputy Finance Minister Anggito Abimanyu on Monday also said the President wanted ministers and other top-level officials in his administration to use the Maung.

“Next week, I will use the Maung, the Pindad car,” said Anggito during his opening remarks for a discussion hosted by Gadjah Mada University (UGM), as quoted by news agency Antara, adding that President Prabowo wanted to end the use of imported cars as official vehicles in his administration and noting that 70 percent of the components of the Maung were locally sourced.
