T

he government will reassess the spatial planning of the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) 2 construction project, Agrarian and Spatial Planning Minister Nusron Wahid said on Thursday, despite the project’s status as a national strategic project (PSN).

Launched in 2016 under former president Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, the PSN list consists of projects deemed crucial for driving economic growth and improving social welfare in the country. The government grants favorable terms to expedite these projects, including in land acquisition and permit issuance.

Nusron said the ministry was reviewing the PIK 2 project’s compliance with spatial planning regulations and would later issue a recommendation on the project continuance, as quoted from Detik.com.

PIK 2, located in Tangerang, Banten, is being developed by private property conglomerate Agung Sedayu Group and is to include a racing circuit to host national and international motorsports events.

The ministry has suggested that PIK 2 may have issues concerning regional and provincial spatial plans (RTRW) and has said the project also lacks the required detailed spatial plans (RDTR).

Nusron said some 1,500 hectares of the 1,755-ha PIK 2 project were still classified as protected forest area. Commercial development could only take place, he continued, if those areas were redesignated as convertible forest, changes that would require permission from the Forestry Ministry.
