View all search resultsmid rapid digitalization, law firms are transitioning from traditional models to modern, technology-driven and client-centric practices to meet growing demands for faster, safer and more effective legal services. For Soemadipradja & Taher (S&T), this transformation has materialized in the relocation of its Jakarta office alongside a comprehensive brand refreshment initiative aimed at strengthening competitiveness and ensuring long-term sustainability.
With the support of its founding partners, S&T has officially relocated to the eco-friendly Jakarta Mori Tower on Jl. Jenderal Sudirman in Jakarta. Equipped with high-speed internet and advanced digital infrastructure, the move marks the end of three decades at Wisma GKBI and reflects a broader transformation aligned with international law firm standards.
The building’s enhanced digital capacity was one of the main attractions to S&T. “We have embraced digitally based applications. Our working processes are integrated into the building’s digital ecosystem. Research can now be more effectively conducted digitally, which is rapidly becoming more efficient and reliable compared with manual methods,” said S&T’s foreign counsel Robert Reid.
According to Reid, technological advancements such as artificial intelligence enable lawyers not only to better monitor current legal developments but also to better anticipate future trends in Indonesia, including potential international investment sectors. “Our core value is to assist clients by providing legal advice on how to apply the law within the context of local culture and the civil law system,” said Reid.
S&T senior partner Rahmat Soemadipradja emphasized that within a digital ecosystem, the firm ensures legal compliance while operating a sustainable office environment that appeals to millennials and Gen Z, generations highly conscious of sustainability.
“Through this office, we aim to foster intensive collaboration among younger lawyers, enabling the transfer of technology and knowledge in our daily practice,” he said.
He added that S&T is well-positioned to serve international clients, with the capacity to handle a wide range of legal matters efficiently using state-of-the-art technology in a strategically located, top-grade facility.
Reid noted that sustainability is embedded in the building management system, which promotes low water consumption, recycling facilities and smart air-conditioning systems designed for energy efficiency. Operationally, S&T adopts a cloud-based document management system, eliminating the need for extensive physical storage and server rooms. Operational efficiency, he said, is the lifeblood of the firm.
S&T is also involved in carbon exchange initiatives and advises clients seeking to reduce their carbon footprint and comply with environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards. “We want to contribute to Indonesia’s net-zero carbon goals,” Reid said.
Founded in 1991, S&T has long been internationally recognized. However, according to Rahmat, modernization and brand refreshment were necessary to reposition the firm beyond its legacy image.
“S&T seeks to rebrand itself as agile and modern, working closely with the younger generation, as many of our clients are now transitioning leadership to the next generation,” Rahmat said.
The brand refresh and office relocation send a strong message about the firm’s evolving identity. Every element of the renewal, including the new logo, carries symbolic meaning. The lines within the logo are intended to represent the feathers of a phoenix’s wings, symbolizing resilience, renewal and sustainability. Rahmat said he believes that these values reflect S&T’s commitment to professionalism, integrity, continuity and clear communication in the digital era.
“The brand refreshment represents our commitment to progress and alignment with technological advancements. It reflects that we are not only digitally advanced, but also agile in collaborating internally and with our clients to effectively meet their legal needs,” Rahmat said.
Rahmat also noted that by combining extensive legal expertise with innovation, adaptability, commercial practicality and the highest standards of integrity, S&T continues to build enduring and trusted relationships with its clients, colleagues and the wider community. The clear message from Rahmat is that the firm serves a diverse range of industries, from finance and technology to infrastructure and energy, offering tailored legal counsel grounded in precision, balance and transparency.
To remain relevant, S&T believed it was important to strengthen its technological adaptability. Beyond relocating and refreshing its brand, the firm has modernized its digital presence, including launching an updated website, implementing a hybrid work system and developing internal applications to support operational efficiency.
Despite rapid digital transformation and the growing role of AI, S&T maintains that a physical office remains essential. According to Rahmat, it provides a space for building trust, strengthening collegial bonds and fostering community. Physical facilities are also important for fulfilling pro bono commitments and accommodating student interns as part of the firm’s professional and social responsibilities.
Incubator of mentorship

(Courtesy of Soemadipradja & Taher (S&T))In sustaining a law firm amid intense competition and constant change, Rahmat emphasized the importance of empowering younger generations, noting that the new sustainable office serves as an incubator of mentorship aligned with S&T’s strategic vision of regeneration.
According to Rahmat, S&T conducts numerous training programs both internally and externally. Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Banyuwangi are among the cities where S&T partners have shared expertise in areas such as competition law and data protection with students and legal professionals.
Law students from Gadjah Mada University, the University of Indonesia and Diponegoro University have also participated in S&T’s training programs.
“With foreign expertise within the firm, we can provide students with valuable exposure to international experience, including cross-border transactions and litigation,” Rahmat noted.
“We are here not because we are great, but because we serve clients at any time and align our practice with their needs and expectations,” he added.
He also highlighted that the new brand has received positive responses, including visits from member firms within S&T’s international network in China.
Rahmat outlined three key objectives supported by the relocation and brand refreshment initiative. First, transitioning from a legacy firm known for excellence to an agile and forward-looking firm. “We aim to be faster and more efficient in delivering services,” he said.
Second, establishing the office as a mentorship laboratory where younger lawyers receive the guidance necessary to grow professionally.
Third, institutionalizing technology. “With this infrastructure, there is no reason not to continuously enhance our technological capabilities. The next generation will be highly digital,” he said.
Looking ahead, S&T aims to bridge local nuances with global standards and position itself as a leader in the carbon- and ESG-driven economy, including green finance, renewable energy and sharia-compliant financing projects.
Through these strategic initiatives, S&T is positioning itself as a mature and adaptive law firm, responsive to evolving client expectations and Indonesia’s dynamic legal landscape.
