The actor was popular for his role as the green, and later white, ranger.
Actor and mixed martial artist Jason David Frank, who played the Green Ranger on the popular 1990s superhero-series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 19. He was 49.
Jason’s manager, Justine Hunt, confirmed the death of the actor on Nov. 20. The cause of his death was not immediately released, although multiple-news outlets have reported that the actor died by suicide.
The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series was an Americanized version of Japanese super-sentai types of children’s show, where a group of colorful superheroes fight monsters and aliens of various types. Both super-sentai and the Power Rangers were popular in Indonesia in the 1990s, and have continued updating themselves for younger fans.
Since Frank’s passing, friends and fans have flooded social media with tributes.
Twitter user @BigHeadRell100 wrote a tribute on how Jason has inspired him through his younger days as a power ranger. “RIP we all wanted to be this man Jason David Frank,” the fan wrote.
Actor Walter Jones, who played the character of Black Ranger on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers alongside Jason, wrote that he said he lost a special member of a family.
“Can’t believe it. RIP Jason David Frank. My heart is sad to have lost another member of our special family,” Walter wrote on Instagram.
Frank’s role as the Green Ranger initially cast him as a strong villain, but the character quickly became a fan favorite, prompting the show to eventually turn him to the good side as the White Ranger.
Frank was married two times, and recently divorced his second wife in 2022. He is survived by his four children.
