Bali’s art exhibition addresses environmental and social issues that were discussed in this year’s G20.
Constellations: Global Reflections, an outdoor public art exhibition in Bali, is currently being held on the island of Kura Kura, from November 2022 to November 2023.
Highlighting environmental issues as the theme, the exhibition amplifies Tri Hita Karana, the Balinese philosophy of finding balance with God, humans and nature for a harmonious life. Policy changes regarding environmental justice, rising sea levels, plastic pollution in the oceans and gender equity, which were discussed at the recent G20 Summit, also influence the artworks.
The exhibition features 20 rotating sculptures made from recycled plastic powered by solar energy. The exhibition also displays Bali’s history of textiles, lantern-making and wayang as unifying concepts.
Curated by Lance Fung and Indonesian businesswoman, philanthropist and MoMA International Council member, Cherie Nursalim, the exhibition features 21 international artists, including Tony Albert (Australia), Arahmaiani (Indonesia), Dana Awartani (Saudi Arabia), Xu Bing (China), Berkay Bugdan (Turkey), Genevieve Cadieux (Canada) and Minerva Cuevas (Mexico).
