otel Mulia’s Chinese restaurant Table8 is celebrating the Chinese New Year with a hopeful ceremony and many offerings of its sumptuous dishes.

The famed Chinese restaurant Table8 in Hotel Mulia Senayan, Central Jakarta, welcomed media outlets to celebrate the Chinese New Year early with a wide array of authentic Chinese dishes on Wednesday.

At the restaurant’s grand dining corner, next to a waterfall and a pond full of swimming koi, media outlets were treated to a performance of long-spouted pot tea pouring. It was a traditional Chinese ceremony of serving the shuang xi (Double Happiness) tea, which consists of green tea, jasmine and chrysanthemum flower.

The event was followed by the ritual ceremony with the Chinese salad Yee Sang, where guests circled the dish as the host prepared it. It is a festive meal consisting of salmon strips, vegetables, and various condiments. The ceremony is believed to bring good luck.

As she served the salad ingredients one by one, the host performed a few prayers of hope to ring in the Year of the Rabbit. The guests responded in unison and then mixed the finished salad with their chopsticks, and each took a portion on a plate.

Table8 lets its guests freely roam through its buffet full of Chinese delicacies, from roast duck, char siu chicken and honey-glazed chicken, to charcoal-grilled pork. Guests can also order a selection of meat and seafood dishes with a wide array of vegetables cooked on the spot, complemented by tasty garlic sauce or the spicy Singaporean sauce.

Halfway through the meal, an entire roast Peking duck was brought out to be shared with 20 people. Its crispy skin was served in a tortilla wrap while the meat was diced and grilled with black pepper sauce for the guests to try.

Chinese New Year begins on a new moon, which will take place on Sunday this year. It is celebrated by Chinese families across the globe and Asia in particular with traditional customs and hopes for prosperity and happiness. The government recently set Monday as a collective leave day in Indonesia.

Hotel Mulia Senayan also provides Chinese New Year hampers and will showcase the iconic Barongsai performance on Jan. 21 and 22 in the hotel’s lobby.
