The Strokes are expected to share the main stage with British pop rock band The 1975 and Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi.
Concert promoter Ismaya Live has announced that New York band The Strokes, which were widely credited for the garage rock revival in the early noughties, will headline We The Fest music festival in Jakarta, scheduled between July 21 and 23 this year.
The Strokes are expected to share the main stage with British pop rock band The 1975 and Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi.
Ismaya Live announced the line-up on Tuesday on the festival's website and social media platforms.
"Presenting phase 1 lineup of #WTF23 to set us on the way, featuring ones of our most exciting lineups to date. Feast your eyes on these familiar and new, emerging names for a summer party like no other on 21, 22 & 23 July 2023," the promoter wrote on Instagram from the festival's handle @we.the.fest.
The Strokes responded to the announcement by posting three lightning emojis in @we.the.fest's comment section.
Around the same time Ismaya Live posted the announcement, The Strokes also confirmed another date in Sepang, Malaysia, on top of the Jakarta gig.
In Sepang, The Strokes will also share the main stage with The 1975.
The Strokes were credited for kickstarting the garage rock revival in early 2001 with their debut album Is This It, released shortly before the 9/11 terrorist attack in New York, the United States.
With their thrift-store aesthetics and raw rock-and-roll sound evoking Tom Petty, The Rolling Stones and Television, The Strokes were a breath of fresh air when the mainstream rock industry was dominated by nu-metal acts like Korn, Creed and Limp Bizkit.
The success of the Strokes inspired countless imitations the world over, with bands like Jet, Franz Ferdinand and Wolfmother playing guitar-based music that looked and sounded like the New York quintet.
The Strokes continued to record a number of successful records including the critically acclaimed follow-up Room On Fire and are now considered one of the most sought-after live acts.
