The Grammy-nominated artist is slated to perform at Indonesia’s biggest jazz festival on May 26, the final day of the festival’s three-day run.
&B singer-songwriter Snoh Aalegra will headline the Jakarta International BNI Java Jazz Festival this year in a special show, marking her first time performing in Indonesia.
The Iranian Swedish-born artist, who has raked in Grammy nominations and won several of its Swedish equivalent music awards, is slated to perform at Indonesia’s biggest jazz festival on May 26, the final day of the festival’s three-day run.
Known for her music’s soulful blend of R&B and jazz, Aalegra has been steadily gaining acclaim since the mid-2010s. Her third studio album, 2022’s Temporary Highs in the Violet Skies, earned her two Grammy nominations in the Best R&B Album category and Best R&B Performance for its single “Lost You”.
Aalegra was nominated again last year for Best Traditional R&B Performance at the prominent music award thanks to “Do 4 Love”, her own twist on Bobby Caldwell’s classic “What You Won’t Do for Love.”
Praise for Aalegra’s music and voice has come from artists such as the late music icon Prince, who served as her mentor, and distinguished producer No I.D. who worked on her last album.
This marks the first time Aalegra will perform in Indonesia, and the Java Festival Production’s president director Dewi Gontha was “delighted” to have the 36-year-old make her Indonesian debut at the annual jazz festival.
“Her talent and artistry align perfectly with our festival’s ethos of celebrating exceptional music and providing unforgettable experiences for our audience,” Dewi said in a statement.
