he government has been preparing Labuan Bajo as a new tourist destination in Indonesia, dubbing the place as “The New Bali”, highlighting its sandy beaches, clear waters and azure skies to attract local and international tourists.
On the island is a tourism complex, Mawatu, located on the edge of Labuan Cermin Beach. Spanning 20 hectares, it carries the concept of the New Seafront Town Center & Leisure Park of Labuan Bajo. The integrated tourism area will feature a one-stop holiday destination, consisting of hotels, floating restaurants, villas, beach clubs, city squares and more. Tourists will be able to find places catered to what they please, from shops to food and entertainment, right next to the picturesque beach. A new dock will also be integrated for cruises and ships for visitors.
In order to announce this new and exciting journey for Indonesia, Mawatu held a virtual agent gathering on Feb. 22, all the while also launching its new Commercial Village product. The event was attended by over 300 reputable property agents from all over the country.
“Partnering with a property agent is very important for the success of the project as well as providing the right investment advice for investors. As a developer, we believe that a good relationship with the agents is very valuable and mutually beneficial,” explained David Lusteaux, managing director of Mawatu, one of the Vasanta Group's biggest projects, while opening the online gathering.
It is hoped that by integrating hotels, shops and restaurants in Mawatu, Labuan Bajo will be one of the government’s Super Priority Tourist Destinations. David also acknowledged that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo had encouraged Labuan Bajo to be prepared for the G20 Summit and ASEAN Summit in 2022 and 2023.
