onored as Indonesia’s first and only elite label marathon event by the World Athletics, Maybank Indonesia’s annual road race returns for 2023.

The World Athletics' Elite Label Road Race Maybank Marathon 2023 is slated to be held on Aug. 27 with the refreshing landscape of Bali Safari and Marine Park Gianyar as its backdrop.

“We hope the presence of Maybank Marathon 2023 can continue to support running enthusiasts not only within the country, but worldwide, who aspire to reach their full potential by completing the Maybank Marathon route in Bali with an outstanding performance,” explained Maybank Indonesia president director Taswin Zakaria,  in his opening remarks at Wednesday's press conference.

Also in attendance were Maybank Marathon project director Widya Permana, Indonesia Athletics Association (PB PASI) secretary-general Tigor Tanjung, as well as various sponsor partners and representatives from the runner community throughout Jakarta.

This year’s Maybank Marathon, especially, is more than just a road race for runners.

Maybank Marathon 2023 intertwines the unique concept of sport tourism, providing an outdoor running experience with views that envelope an authentic Balinese countryside. The concept is also in line with Maybank Indonesia’s commitment to support a healthy lifestyle, which inspires it to expand its network with other leading marathon events for an amplified growth.

In its 12th year, Maybank Marathon collaborated with Thailand’s leading marathon event to birth a sister marathon. Dubbed the Elite Label Road Race Bangsaen42 Conburi Marathon, Taswin said the sister marathon evoked Maybank Indonesia’s commitment in supporting the development of Indonesian athletics as it manifests with great opportunities for a wider range of cooperation between events.

Meanwhile, Bangsaen42 Chonburi Marathon race director Rut Jiroajvanichakorn (Rat) highlighted that marathon events were progressing toward inclusion of diversity to welcome an event for all.  He mentioned that five of his participants with disabilities were pleased by the considerations within the marathon, one of which inspires him to build more mobile restrooms along the routes for wheelchair accessibility.

Delving deeper, Taswin added this sister marathon promised the Elite Label Road Race Maybank Marathon as a groundbreaking representation of the international standard that would bring forth Indonesia among other international marathons, entering the leading world-class event in the palms of Southeast Asia, “even within the Asian scale as a whole”, highlighted Taswin with hope.

Taswin and Rat share a common mission, in which both Maybank Marathon and Bangsaen42 Chonburi Marathon dream of becoming the catalyst to empower local communities with a healthy lifestyle through a transcending outdoor experience, such as immersing oneself in the serene coast of Thailand.

In this spirit, Maybank Marathon engaged in mobilizing the Balinese people along the race track through a series of programs, while Bangsaen42 Chonburi Marathon prioritized the involvement of local MSMEs adjacent throughout the route.

Making their first year of collaboration more memorable, Maybank Indonesia will provide 40 running slots free of charge for Maybank Marathon 2023 finalists who surpassed the best duration record, running 42.195 kilometers to participate in the Bangsaen42 Chonburi Marathon in November. Likewise, 40 runners from Bangsaen42 Chonburi Marathon will also be able to gain an experience in travel, running for Maybank Marathon in 2024.

Maybank Marathon project director Widya Permana added Maybank Indonesia had also launched their exclusive presale running slot program, offering existing or new customers to participate in savings, credit card, bancassurance, mutual funds and Maybank Premier programs. Customers will be able reserve themselves a running slot even before the opening of public registration on April 4, which so far has received enthusiastic responses from customers.

To amplify the runup to the Maybank Marathon 2023, Maybank Indonesia is also establishing a series of Road to Maybank 2023 across six cities: Medan, North Sumatra; Jakarta; Bandung, West Java; Surabaya, East Java; Bali; and Makassar, South Sulawesi, running from May to August. Embellishing care for one’s well-being, this warm-up will coach educational training including running clinics, the tranquility of Sunday morning runs, performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and other life-support management priming.

“This sister marathon collaboration aims to awaken the sportsmanship of runners and engage them in Southeast Asian marathon events as it supplements the local economy as well,” said Widya.

Customers who are interested in participating in the Maybank Marathon 2023 in Bali can register via the official website https://www.maybank.co.id/Maybank-Marathon, which will open from April 4 at 1 p.m.
