T Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) has strengthened its synergy with Telkom Indonesia at the Digiland 2023 Conference by launching collaboration between the two companies to increase digital adoption among micro and ultra micro entrepreneurs.
The initiative was launched by Sunar Basuki, Director of Operations, Digital and Information Technology at PNM, Ririek Adriansyah, CEO of Telkom Indonesia, and F.M. Venusiana R., Director of Enterprise and Business Service at Telkom Indonesia.
PNM is committed to encouraging the Indonesian economy to ensure that it remains relevant and grows with market needs in the digital era. Improved ease of access through digitalization is among the valuable trends of the current market.
According to the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) that had embraced the digital transformation reached 32.44 percent by the end of 2022, an increase of 26.6 percent from the previous year. Micro entrepreneurs have also started rolling out e-commerce web pages and cashless transactions.
Of the 14.6 million customers PNM has assisted in 35 provinces, only 8-10 percent use internet or mobile banking, and just 6 percent are selling on e-commerce platforms (Gadjah Mada University, 2022).
"We have to know that PNM's target customers are underprivileged women for whom just opening an e-commerce application is beyond wishful thinking. But we are still committed to helping them [scale up]," Sunar said during a discussion at Digiland 2023.
"WhatsApp Commerce is a type of application that [matches] the characteristics and needs of our customers. [Using] this application is also a form of collaboration with Telkom Indonesia," he continued.
The company’s collaboration with Telkom is expected to help PNM in further encouraging its customers to scale up their businesses.
PNM’s empowerment strategy, Sunar said, must consider its customers’ capabilities, the assistance they need and the suitability of digital applications. Among the strategy is collaborating with Telkom on deploying WhatsApp Commerce.
"For the targets of micro business actors, [...] we have prepared an application from Telkom that suits their needs, just wait," said Venusiana.
The PNM-Telkom collaboration marks the beginning of a journey to strengthen MSMEs as the backbone of the Indonesian economy. Providing services that cover a wide range of entrepreneurs and their various needs is possible through collaborating with a number of parties.
PNM’s continuing efforts show that many local entrepreneurs still need assistance to move forward in the digital era, and linking arms with Telkom will help boost their mentoring and training.
