AIESEC Invites youth to walk toward better tomorrow

nternational youth organization AIESEC is inviting the younger generation to take a couple of steps on the road to a more sustainable future. Members from Greater Jakarta gathered to campaign for the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through Walk4SDGs activities on July 30 as part of the Car Free Day (CFD) in Central Jakarta.

Participants embarked on a long walk of approximately 2 kilometers, carrying the attributes of the 17 SDGs while shouting slogans. Then, AIESEC in Indonesia, together with 250 young people, listened to addresses delivered by two influencers, Laura Katheirene and this year’s Miss Indonesia from West Papua Chindy Agata Bosawer.

They invited the younger generation to continue carrying out positive activities such as Walk4SDGs from an early age to create a better world.

.

Other than the walk, Walk4SDGs also held activities in order to increase public discourse and awareness for attendees. Organizers held a joint discussion on environmental, educational and justice issues through the distribution of small groups to ensure that everyone had a platform to voice their thoughts and join the discussion.

Participants were also provided with health examination facilities in collaboration with the Center for Indonesian Medical Students' Activities (CIMSA), and the day was made livelier with games and prizes, such as truth or dare, snakes and ladders and charades.

Apart from increasing public awareness about the SDGs, AIESEC in Indonesia also wants to make Walk4SDGs a platform for local youth to be able to feel the spirit of awareness of volunteer-based collaborative projects, making way for more events in the future that are rooted in the same pillars.

.

The activity was supported by various partners such as Wardah, SGM, Girl Up UI, Greeneration Foundation, Manajemen Talenta Papua, Good News from Indonesia and other organizations and institutions. AIESEC in Indonesia believes that this activity can be a forum for collaboration to produce a greater impact.

"After the pandemic, we want to focus on taking real action through offline programs where we can engage directly. Walk4SDGs activities will also begin to be carried out in cities where AIESEC is present, such as Semarang, Yogyakarta and Pontianak," concluded the head of the public relations division of AIESEC in Indonesia, Whira Purnama Rizki.
