Empowering customers, PNM showcases supported SME products on the international stage

T

he State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Ministry has encouraged PNM to facilitate the presence of small and medium enterprise (SME) products on the international stage. A total of 563 types of SME products were exhibited and introduced at the 20th China ASEAN EXPO (CAEXPO), including clothing, handicrafts, home decor, health and beauty products. This event took place at the International Convention and Exhibition Center in Nanning, Guangxi, China, from Aug. 16 to 19.

PNM participated by involving 18 of its outstanding customer-supported products in this international exhibition. The exhibited products underwent a rigorous curation process, focusing not only on showcasing SME products but also those that could reflect the nation's identity. Thus, PNM Mekaar's customer-supported products from Denpasar, Sumba, Magelang and Solo were selected. These products included Solo's signature Laweyan batik, Denpasar's handicrafts, Sokasi's painted crafts, Kombu woven fabrics and coconut shell handicrafts.

China ASEAN EXPO 2023 emerged from an agreement during the seventh China ASEAN Summit in October 2003, within the framework of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (CAFTA). This event demonstrates Indonesia's commitment to fostering trade and investment cooperation with China and other ASEAN countries.

Various officials attended the exhibition, including Vice President Ma’ruf Amin; Indonesian Ambassador to China Djauhari Oratmangun; special staff III of the SOEs Ministry Arya Sinulingga; and several other dignitaries.

Through this exhibition, PNM, as an issuer, and its customer-supported businesses expected to gain greater recognition among CAEXPO visitors and the local community in Nanning, Guangxi. Furthermore, there was significant income potential for ultramicro customers through transactions at the exhibition.

PNM CEO Arief Mulyadi encouraged SME customers, particularly ultramicro ones, not to be complacent after participating in international events. He urged them to maintain the quality of their products. In international trade competition, SME products must meet export standards. Arief acknowledged the significant challenges ultramicro entrepreneurs face, as many of them run businesses merely to meet their daily needs. However, there is substantial untapped potential.

"We continuously urge our customers to have a mindset capable of penetrating the global market. Product quality must be maintained, and innovation must continue. Through our business capacity development program, we provide support and training to our customers to upgrade their products and enable them to export," said Arief.

These challenges inspire PNM to continue empowering its customers through guidance and financing. The empowerment focuses on improving the welfare of customers, particularly in economic development that creates a multiplier effect on social and environmental development.

Arya agreed with Arief in promoting SMEs' international market penetration. "This exhibition also serves as a platform for SMEs to engage in business matching with entrepreneurs from various ASEAN countries. This undoubtedly helps SMEs expand their reach internationally," Arya said.
