urrently, the productive-age population in Indonesia is dominated by Generation Z and Millennials, both of which are closely associated with digital technology usage. PNM recognizes this as a challenge for future business transformation, considering that the prospective clients of PNM are shifting toward those who are accustomed to the digital world.
This was emphasized by PNM's director of operations, digital, and information technology, Sunar Basuki, during the visit of 100 business managementmaster’s degree students affiliated with the Global Network for Advanced Management (GNAM). The participants came from various countries, including Pakistan, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Gambia and different regions of Indonesia.
According to Sunar, although PNM's assisted clients mostly come from the low-income segment and smartphone ownership is not uniform, technological readiness for future clients must commence now. "A significant portion of Mekaar's clients are Millennials who are more adept at utilizing technology, so there must be a business transformation through digitalization. Moreover, PNM's potential customers in the future will be Generation Z, who are even more tech-savvy," Sunar stated at the PNM Tower on Tuesday.
For clients who are not yet digitally literate, PNM remains committed to providing digital literacy and inclusion through various programs in collaboration with third parties. This time, group leaders are the primary target for PNM to impart digital literacy. Clients are educated on the importance of using social media and e-commerce to expand their businesses and reach a wider market.
"PNM is preparing the PNM Digi Customer application for those who are proficient in technology. Group leaders will be the priority for digitalization because they are the extended arms of PNM in managing group member loans," he added.
As a non-bank financial institution dedicated to providing support to the unbanked or less privileged population, PNM is committed to promoting the sustainability of micro-entrepreneurial efforts by providing financial, intellectual and social capital. These three forms of capital are prioritized, starting with financial literacy and followed by digital literacy. "Once clients understand financial literacy, it becomes easier to guide them toward having further financial products and then transitioning to digital literacy to advance their businesses," Sunar concluded.
PNM does not merely offer financing but provides continuous financing and support until micro and small businesses reach higher levels of empowerment. This ongoing financing and support is what sets PNM apart from other financing institutions.
