S

alon International de l’alimentation (SIAL) Interfood, also dubbed the “global food marketplace”, held a press conference on Nov. 1 at the Trade Ministry in Jakarta.

An international exhibition covering the food and beverage (F&B), culinary services, the hotel, restaurants and cafes (Horeca) and the bakery industries, the grand event will be held concurrently alongside the Seafood Show Asia Expo 2023 and INA Shop Expo 2023 from Nov. 8 to 11 at the Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo) in Kemayoran, North Jakarta.

Krista Exhibitions CEO Daud D. Salim told Wednesday’s press conference: “We are proud to organize the SIAL Interfood 2023 exhibition, which serves as a barometer for revitalizing the food and beverage industry and Horeca in the country.

“There will be a total of 895 participating companies, including 100 SMEs [small and medium enterprises], and there will be participants from over 20 countries, such as Bulgaria, Indonesia, Pakistan, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Greece, Jordan, Turkey, Thailand, Vietnam, South Korea, Taiwan, Poland, United Arab Emirates, India, Tunisia, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.”

Targeting a total of 85,000 visitors, Daud expressed his hope that the four-day expo would drive growth in Indonesia’s F&B industry as businesses showcased their various innovations on the global stage.

Miftah Farid, acting director of export product development at the Trade Ministry, spoke about the ministry’s efforts in supporting the upcoming SIAL Interfood exhibition at the press conference.

"This year, the Trade Ministry’s Directorate General of National Export Development has facilitated 10 export-oriented SMEs [that were] selected through a curation process to participate in SIAL Interfood 2023. We hope that the products [they present] will attract buyers’ interest [and] lead to business contracts and boost non-oil and gas exports from Indonesia," he said.

The selected SMEs would be displaying a wide range of their F&B products in the Indonesia Pavilion at the expo, Miftah added, with hopes of driving SMEs to focus on exports and global expansion.

As a business-to-business (B2B) forum for marketing products, doing business and seeking entrepreneurial solutions, SIAL Interfood expects to provide an optimal environment to discover new innovations and the latest technologies in the F&B industry, such as the latest processing machinery.

SIAL Interfood will also be presenting a series of events and programs through collaborations with various organizations, associations and leading industry experts, including culinary and gastronomy practitioners.
