eading Indonesian company Astra celebrated the remarkable achievements of inspiring young Indonesians at the 14th Integrated Spirit of Astra for Indonesia (SATU) Awards.
This year's event, held under the theme "For Today and the Future of Indonesia", recognized the outstanding contributions of five young changemakers in the fields of health care, education, entrepreneurship, environmentalism and technology.
Astra's commitment to acknowledging and celebrating the positive contributions of young individuals aligns with its vision of prosperity for the nation and support for Indonesia's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through the SATU Awards, Astra continues to inspire and empower the nation's youth to drive positive change in their communities.
The 2023 SATU Indonesia Awards featured a distinguished jury panel from various fields, contributing their expertise to the selection process. A total of 14,997 young people applied for this year’s awards, an increase of 11.4 percent from last year.
Astra president director Djony Bunarto Tjondro expressed his admiration for the dedication and innovation shown by the young Indonesians who have made significant positive impacts on their communities.
"There are so many young Indonesian people, spread from the western tip of Sumatra to the eastern tip of Papua, who despite all their limitations, have extraordinary enthusiasm and innovation to make positive changes for the surrounding communities. Their innovation and enthusiasm to serve society is a source of sincerity for this nation and an inspiration that should be emulated and appreciated by all of us," he said.
In the category of health care, Theresia Dwiaudina Sari Putri from East Nusa Tenggara was honored for her efforts in significantly reducing infant stunting in the province’s remote Uzuzozo village through her midwifery services and community education program.
In the category of education, Diana Cristiana Dacosta Ati was awarded for her work as a teacher at the sole school in her remote village, which is located in Mappi regency, South Papua. Diana and her two colleagues’ efforts improved literacy among the village’s children, with many continuing their education at secondary school.
In entrepreneurship, Alan Efendhi of Yogyakarta took home the award for founding Rasane Vera, a company producing healthy, aloe vera-based beverages and involving local farmers in the process, after noticing rising cases of kidney failure, diabetes and obesity in his region. Since its establishment in 2018, Rasane Vera has engaged more than 125 partner farmers in Gunung Kidul, Klaten, Bantul and Sleman.
The technology sector was represented by Reza Permadi from Jakarta, who was awarded for introducing the Atourin Visitor Management System (AVMS) to help destination and village tourism managers promote their offerings online. To date, approximately 100 tourism villages have partnered with AVMS, with Atourin supporting through building customer databases and finance accounting.
Meanwhile, Jakarta-based Rengkuh Banyu Mahandaru, winner of the “Group” section, combats plastic and styrofoam waste by creating eco-friendly food containers through his start-up Plepah. Since its founding in 2018, the start-up has supplied more than 100,000 food containers per month.
The winners of the SATU Indonesia Awards will receive a grant of Rp 65 million for their initiatives, along with valuable mentoring opportunities. These activities can be integrated into Astra's sustainable social contributions, such as the Kampung Berseri Astra and Desa Sejahtera Astra initiatives.
The grand celebration included performances and discussions, adding to the event's festive atmosphere. AstraTalks provided a platform for award recipients and distinguished speakers to share their insights. The event concluded with a special performance by JKT48.
Furthermore, Astra introduced the "Indonesian Dream" art exhibition, fostering a positive vision of Indonesia's future. The Astra Supported Community Showcase highlighted the remarkable work of communities supported by Astra.
