he highly anticipated Women’s International Club (WIC) Annual Charity Bazaar will be officially opened by First Lady Iriana Widodo on Nov. 8 at the Jakarta Convention Center, Hall B. With an underlying theme of diversity and the highlighted spirit of generosity, the bazaar will feature participation from 40 embassies and over 300 carefully selected local vendors, along with food and beverage stalls that present unique products from their respective countries. From traditional handicrafts to delectable delicacies, visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a global shopping experience like no other.

The opening ceremony of the bazaar will be fully supported by the province of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), proudly presenting “Lombok Sumbawa: Land of Infinite Experiences” with its traditional music and dances.

"We’re incredibly excited to be able to organize WIC’s Bazaar again like it was before the pandemic, and we’re honored that the First Lady will officially open our Bazaar," said Nina Handoko, president of WIC. "This charity bazaar not only highlights the diverse cultures represented by the participating embassies but also serves as a powerful platform to make a positive difference for all the social institutions and scholarship students that WIC regularly supports.”

The core purpose of the Annual Charity Bazaar is to generate funds for WIC's social welfare and scholarship initiatives, which provide support to university students, women and underprivileged children. What sets the WIC Bazaar apart is that it is Jakarta's only event where embassies from countries spanning from Azerbaijan to Tanzania come together in cooperation to assist the broader Jakarta community. This occasion presents them with an opportunity to make a positive impact in their host country.

The Embassy of The Kingdom of Spain is looking forward to participating in the Annual Charity Bazaar. The bazaar provides a unique opportunity for us to come together as a collective force for good," said Madame Gemma Caminada, the spouse of the Spanish ambassador and the President of the Spouses of Heads of Missions (SHOM). She mentioned that Spain's stall at the bazaar will showcase a special clothing line and different wines from the region. Meanwhile, Madame Theresa Loidl, the spouse of the Austrian ambassador and the vice president of SHOM, is reported to be bringing a wide range of delicacies. “There will be plenty of opportunities at the Bazaar to learn more about Austria without having to travel there,” she stated. “Personally, I will be proud to represent Austria in my fabulously diverse host country of Indonesia.”

Another distinguished guest expected to be in attendance is Madame Maria Augusta Hidalgo, wife of the Ecuadorian ambassador. “Participating at the WIC bazaar is a heart-warming reminder that when women unite with a common purpose, they can create a brighter future for those in need,” said Hidalgo. The stall representing her country will offer a diverse arrangement of colorful artisanal crafts and embroidered handicrafts all the way from South America.

Madam Rutchanee Uerpairojkit from the Embassy of Thailand expressed her enthusiasm, “Although I just moved here two months ago, I understand that the Royal Thai Embassy has always participated in the WIC Bazaar. I look forward to joining this wonderful tradition”. Ms. Habiba Ogah representing Nigeria at the press conference invited everyone to catch a glimpse of Nigeria and the traditional richness of her culture: “Please come and shop with an impact.”

Among the dozens of stalls from various embassies that will participate in the bazaar, the stall from Switzerland will offer a wide range of delicious goodies. Additionally, the Dutch Embassy stall will feature cheese and a variety of nostalgic sweets and cookies.

While the first day is only open to those with invitations, the general public will be welcomed on November 9. Visitors are expected to come and join the fun to purchase toward a worthy cause. Entrance will cost Rp 25,000.
