ransportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi met with chief executive officer (CEO) of Port Projects Management & Development Co. Ltd (PPMDC), Adnan MT Al-Saggaf, during his official visit to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday.
In the meeting, the minister proposed investment collaboration with PPMDC in several airports in Indonesia that cater to haj and umrah (minor haj) flights. PPMDC is the first airport operator in Saudi Arabia and currently manages King Abdul Aziz Hajj Airport in Jeddah.
"We’ve offered investment by forming a joint venture with airport operators in Indonesia to develop airports in the country and enhance connectivity between haj and umrah airports in Indonesia and airports in Jeddah and Madinah," said Budi.
He said Indonesia currently has several airports serving haj and umrah flights. "There are several embarkation airports for the haj and umrah in Indonesia that can be collaborated with," he added.
Meanwhile, Al-Saggaf expressed interest in promptly investing in haj and umrah airports in Indonesia. "With over 17 years of experience and as the manager of haj airports in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, PPMDC believes it can contribute its best to the management of haj and umrah airports in Indonesia," he stated.
PPMDC already has a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Angkasa Pura 2 (AP 2) to explore collaboration in operating and developing haj and umrah terminal facilities.
Indonesia has 13 airports for haj embarkation and six airports for haj transit.
The 13 embarkation airports are Sultan Iskandar Muda (BTJ/Banda Aceh), Kualanamu (KNO/Medan), Minangkabau (PDG/Padang), Hang Nadim (BTH/Batam), Mahmud Badaruddin II (PLM/Palembang), Soekarno Hatta (CKG/Cengkareng), Adi Sumarmo (SOC/Solo), Juanda (SUB/Surabaya), Syamsudin Noor (BDJ/Banjarmasin), Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan (BPN/Balikpapan), Sultan Hasanuddin (UPG/Makassar), Lombok (LOP/Praya), and Kertajati (KJT/Majalengka).
