very woman knows that in today’s world, self-defense is a mandatory skill that one cannot leave the house without possessing. The simple act of walking down the street is almost impossible without the fear of being catcalled over something as trivial as our appearance. Even scarier, verbal insults are only the tip of a very big iceberg that does not seem to melt.
In response to this, Padma Resort Legian held a women’s self-defense workshop in collaboration with a Bali Jiu Jitsu school, Woven. Featuring Simone Julia, a distinguished purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and international Jiu Jitsu athlete, the workshop was held on March 9 at Padma Resort Legian and took place in its serene garden.
Coinciding with International Women’s Day, the resort wished to celebrate women in a proactive and more meaningful way. It is well-documented that sports have a positive impact on our physical health as well as our mental health, contributing to an enhanced mood.
“It can be intimidating to know that you can’t fight a man and beat him, but if you know you can defend yourself against him, I think that's super super important,” said Simone.
