t 63, Nanik Yuliati, a retired teacher, looks younger than her age. Energetic and cheerful, this is Nanik’s daily demeanor as a client of Mekaar’s Blitar branch in East Java. As the leader of the Precet Mewah group, she attributes her constant cheerfulness to the health benefits of drinking jamu (traditional herbal medicine).
From a young age, Nanik enjoyed processing various spices into jamu. She has passed this skill on to her children and siblings. Her daughter helps market her jamu products, and thanks to Nanik’s guidance, her sister also makes and sells traditional herbal medicines to support her family.
For Nanik, the most important thing is to benefit others. Her guiding principle is to help, which includes her role as a Mekaar group leader, where she is determined to assist neighbors who need business capital.
“I take responsibility if any group member faces difficulties. I do everything to be helpful. I am very grateful to Mekaar for providing additional capital to its clients. I recommend borrowing from Mekaar for business purposes because without a business, it would be difficult to repay the weekly installments,” said Nanik.
Nanik feels her business has grown since she became a Mekaar client in 2020.
“My business has developed over the past four years. Although I started this business 15 years ago, I have only felt significant growth since becoming a Mekaar client and since my retirement,” said Nanik, who retired from teaching three years ago.
L. Dodot Patria Ary, head of the corporate secretariat at PNM, emphasized that PNM Mekaar focuses on improving the welfare of women. PNM enhances skills through various training programs and provides business capital. PNM offers financial, intellectual and social capital to all its clients.
