resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has established the Tanjung Sauh Special Economic Zone (SEZ) through Government Regulation No. 24/2024. The SEZ, located on Tanjung Sauh Island in Batam, Riau Islands province, covers an area of 840.67 hectares.
The Tanjung Sauh SEZ plans to focus on production and processing, energy development, as well as logistics and distribution. It will foster industries such as electronic components (PCBs, RFID, GPS, CCTV and semiconductors) and electronic product assembly.
The SEZ’s port, situated between Batam and Bintan, will serve as a crucial logistics hub connecting the Riau Islands with national and international markets. It is strategically located near the busy Malacca Strait.
Additionally, the Tanjung Sauh SEZ will function as a modern Gateway Port, capable of handling up to 5 million TEUs, and will serve as a logistics center for the area between Batam and Bintan.
Proposed by PT Batam Raya Sukses Perkasa, the Tanjung Sauh SEZ represents an investment commitment of Rp 199.6 trillion and is expected to create 366,087 jobs by 2053.
