s the city prepares to celebrate its 497th anniversary on June 22, the Sari Pacific Jakarta, Autograph Collection will be marking the momentous occasion in collaboration with BMW Eurokars, enlivening the special day through simple initiatives and ideas that are expected to leave deep memories for everyone.
In the spirit of this year’s anniversary theme “Jakarta Kota Global Berjuta Persona” (Jakarta, millions-strong global city), the event also highlights the city’s beauty as an international hub inhabited by millions from all walks of life, coexisting in the dynamic metropolis.
“In Betawi tradition, roti buaya [crocodile-shaped bread] represents faithfulness and loyalty. Thus, we selected it as a means of expressing our gratitude,” said Vincent Yap, general manager of Sari Pacific Jakarta.
“We are taking steps to enhance synergy with stakeholders, including the government, the media, which is the pillar of information, and the influencers who play a role in the development of the creative economy sector in Jakarta,” he added.
In distributing roti buaya, the collaboration aims to emphasize the city’s progression thus far, symbolized by the time-honored tradition of the treat, as Jakarta looks to the future with renewed hope.
The legendary kitchen at Sari Delicatessen and Café is also using the event as a platform for presenting its culinary innovations that combine authentic Betawi flavors with delicious French pastries. Its creative chefs have concocted special desserts such as Crokalor, a fusion of croissant and kerak telor, a Betawi omelette typically served with fried shallots and spiced, sautéed grated coconut.
Among the unique and delectable dishes is Kembang Goyang Cake, which was recently introduced as the Cake of the Month, to add excitement and an elegant, local touch to the celebrations.
“This initiative not only aims to welcome Jakarta’s 497th anniversary, but also to introduce our renovated coffee shop and deli restaurant, featuring a typical, seasonal Jakarta menu served with a touch of creativity from our Sari Delicatessen and Café chef,” added marketing communications manager Lisa Natalia.
Lisa also noted that the spirit of transformation was at the core of the hotel’s values, as depicted in its interior design reflecting Jakarta and Betawi culture.
From chandeliers representing the shawls of Betawi dancers, reliefs of the Ciliwung River and dioramas symbolizing the tale behind the Betawi culture’s development, to wood installation art depicting Topeng and Renggang Manis dancers in the reception area, each is designed to welcome guests by collectively extending the stunning charms of Betawi culture and Jakarta.
