This year's Maybank Marathon 2024 also integrated sustainability initiatives by offering participants the opportunity to join a carbon offset program aimed at reducing emissions during the event. AQUA, the official water sponsor of Maybank Marathon 2024, supported environmental conservation efforts by collaborating with more than 100 volunteers from the Malu Dong Buang Sampah Sembarangan Foundation to educate runners on proper waste disposal. The volunteers also collected trash from all 29 water stations.

AQUA provided dropbox collection points in the race village area for participants to deposit their plastic bottles, ensuring they could be recycled. All the collected waste was then processed by Eco Bali, a local waste management company in Bali appointed by the Maybank Marathon organizers.

AQUA encouraged all participants of the Maybank Marathon 2024 to help keep Bali clean by disposing of their waste in designated areas.

Widya Permana, director of Operations at PT Bank Maybank Indonesia and project director of the Maybank Marathon 2024, welcomed AQUA's support and commitment to environmental conservation. "We greatly appreciate AQUA's support for the Maybank Marathon 2024, including its efforts in education and waste collection around the race area, which ensures our event remains environmentally friendly," said Widya.

This collaboration between AQUA and Maybank Marathon, Widya continued, reflects the concern of the food-beverage and banking sectors in supporting sustainability agendas, aligned with the M25+, Maybank Group's priority strategy to become a leader in environmental, social and Governance (ESG) initiatives within the ASEAN region.

The collected waste will be recycled and processed into AQUA bottle packaging and other plastic products. Non-plastic and organic waste will be managed and fully utilized to avoid ending up in the environment or landfill.

As the official water sponsor, AQUA was present at several water stations along the Maybank Marathon 2024 course to meet the hydration needs of all participants. Drinking water is crucial before, during and after physical activity to prevent dehydration, help lower body temperature and maintain performance, especially for marathon runners covering long distances. AQUA's presence significantly helped participants continue to running well until they reached the finish line. Additionally, participants had the opportunity to use reusable silicone and paper cups as alternatives to reduce plastic consumption.

These two positive actions by AQUA at the Maybank Marathon 2024 are part of the #BijakBerplastik campaign, where AQUA is committed to supporting the Clean Indonesia Movement. In Bali, through this campaign, AQUA has successfully collected more plastic waste used by the local community.
