he Tukad Mati Lestari environmental community, in collaboration with the Bali provincial government and the Sampoerna Retail Community (SRC), under the "Sampoerna for Indonesia" sustainability initiative, held a mangrove planting event in Badung, Bali, on Thursday. Carrying the theme of "Love the Earth: Manage Waste to Reduce Environmental Footprint," participants planted a total of 1,111 mangrove seedlings around Tukad Mati Lestari.
The head of the Bali provincial Forestry and Environment Agency, I Made Teja, who participated in the event, encouraged all parties to help preserve the environment. He also expressed his gratitude to the Tukad Mati Lestari community, the SRC and all other contributors to the environmental care program.
"Let's green Bali by planting both forest trees and other varieties as well. Since 2018, thanks to SRC programs developed in Bali, we have been able to cool down our forest areas. I want to thank everyone for their contributions. I cannot do this work alone. Let’s continue this noble activity together because every tree planted will provi---===-de energy and oxygen," Teja said.
I Nyoman Sukra, chairman of the Tukad Mati Lestari River Care Community, said the mangrove planting initiative was a sustainability program aimed at protecting Bali’s natural environment.
"Thank you to the SRC for organizing this mangrove planting event for a sustainable environment. We hope this vision continues so our descendants inherit a well-preserved Bali," Sukra said.
Gusti Ngurah Anom, also known as Ajik Krisna, a businessman who participated in the planting, expressed his commitment to collaborating on all environmental care programs.
"I am ready to work with everyone to preserve the environment. If we don't act, who will help, the government? If we leave everything to the government, it will be overwhelming. What's most important is our own awareness as businesspeople," Ajik said.
Meanwhile, Ishak Danuningrat, a representative from Sampoerna for Indonesia, explained that the mangrove planting was part of a national effort to conserve the environment and mitigate global warming.
Ishak further noted that mangroves not only absorbed carbon, but also protected the coastline from erosion and created habitat for many marine species. The SRC also actively supports and organizes various other environmental care activities, such as promoting responsible waste disposal habits.
"One of these initiatives is the #SayaAjaBisa movement, which began in 2018 to raise public awareness about environmental protection. So far, around 5,000 people, including numerous volunteers, have participated in this movement. For us, collaboration plays a vital role in extending benefits to a wider community," he said.
The event was attended by nearly 100 environmental volunteers, including SRC store owners in Bali who were enthusiastic about planting mangroves in the area.
