he Batam Development Authority (BP Batam), through its Public Relations, Promotion and Protocol Bureau, held the 2024 Investment Awards on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2024, at the Radisson Golf & Convention Center Batam.
The 2024 Investment Awards, which recognizes those companies that have contributed to developing Batam’s economy, is part of the 53rd BP Batam Service Day, themed “New Batam, Advanced Indonesia”.
The event was opened by Purwiyanto, Acting Chairman of BP Batam, and began with a keynote speech by Susiwijono Moegiarso, Secretary of the Office of the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, who also serves as Chairman of BP Batam’s Supervisory Board.
Susiwijono conveyed his full support for BP Batam’s strategic efforts to develop an internationally recognized investment destination. He emphasized that the central government would continue to support BP Batam’s efforts to transform the region into the country’s modern manufacturing hub and a data center, given its strategic location along the Malacca Strait, one of the world’s busiest trade routes.
Susiwijono also praised BP Batam as an extension of the central government that had succeeded in maintaining a conducive investment climate in Batam, in coordination with business players. He also expressed his hope that BP Batam’s recognition of these businesses would inspire them to contribute further to the rapid development of Batam.
“Thank you to BP Batam for its role in creating a conducive investment climate, which has contributed to national economic growth,” Susiwijono said in his speech.
“Through this event, we hope all stakeholders in Batam will continue to be motivated and inspired to work together in building Batam into a leading modern industrial area in Southeast Asia.”
His speech was followed by BP Batam Acting Chairman Purwiyanto, who highlighted Batam’s growing appeal, in terms of both quality and quantity, as an investment destination on the international stage.
Batam recorded significant investment growth in the first half of 2024 to reach Rp 12.31 trillion (US$790 million), an increase of 55.70 percent compared to the same period in 2023. The number of projects grew 69.65 percent to reach an export value of $14.6 billion and an import value of $13.8 billion in 2023.
“Along with the growth in investment, exports and imports, BP Batam continues to accelerate various development projects with the goal of facilitating established investments and attracting new investors worldwide,” said Purwiyanto.
He also expressed his appreciation for all parties involved in Batam’s development success.
“We thank the Kepri FKPD [Riau Islands Regional Leadership Coordination Forum], the Batam city administration and all business associations and entrepreneurs in Batam that have synergized to create a positive investment climate and economic growth in Batam,” Purwiyanto said.
