Kadek Sumiarta, a young and talented culinarian at The Apurva Kempinski Bali, has won third place at Young Talents Escoffier, a prestigious global competition held in November 2024 in Paris.

Kadek also won a special prize for efficient waste and water management, energy control and technical mastery at the event.

“These accolades underscore his commitment to excellence and sustainability, setting a powerful start to his culinary career while making a powerful impact for Indonesia on the world stage,” The Apurva Kempinski Bali said in a statement

During his journey leading up to the competition, Kadek received tremendous support from his mentors among the resort’s award-winning chefs, various colleagues as well as valued partners with a shared vision.

Focusing on sharpening his skills and strengthening his mental readiness, Kadek was directly mentored by Chef Jean-Yves Leuranguer, who was bestowed the Meilleur Ouvrier de France (best craftsman of France) title in 1996, and Chef Ho Weng Kit, a highly acclaimed chef who has more than 30 prestigious awards from Asia and Europe under his belt.

“Their valuable insights on world-class cooking skills and crafts, classic French cuisine, dedication, and problem-solving skills in the kitchen were instrumental in Kadek’s success in bringing the title home,” the resort said.

“Moreover, driven by shared vision and values, Classic Fine Foods and Yacht Sourcing played a pivotal role in supporting Kadek's journey to the Young Talents Escoffier grand finale in Paris,” it added.

The resort also noted that Classic Fine Foods, with its commitment to culinary excellence, had recognized Kadek’s talent as an industry treasure.

“Their vision focuses on nurturing young culinary professionals who uphold the highest standards in crafting innovative and artisanal cuisines, showcasing everything from local specialties to seasonal delicacies,” it said.

Sophie Le Thuy, the company’s national sales and marketing manager, said: “Classic Fine Foods takes immense pride in supporting chefs in pursuit of culinary excellence, and we are extremely proud of Kadek's achievement in this prestigious global competition.”

She also congratulated Kadek for his well-deserved recognition, along with his world-class mentors at The Apurva Kempinski Bali.

“This success inspires us to continue supporting extraordinary talents in crafting innovative culinary arts,” she said.

Meanwhile, Yacht Sourcing stated that it recognized the importance of nurturing exceptional talents like Kadek, who embodied its vision of reaching perfection through experience.

Yacht Sourcing’s support highlighted its commitment to sustaining the legacy of culinary expertise while passing down world-class knowledge and skills in crafting unforgettable dining experiences, an essential criterion of Young Talents Escoffier.

“We could not be prouder of Kadek for winning third place in the Young Talents Escoffier global competition. This [shows that] greatness can be achieved with combined dedication, hard work, passion, skills and teamwork,” Yacht Sourcing CEO Boumedienne Senous said.

“It calls for a celebration beyond individual achievement. Rather, it is a celebration of collective efforts for the next generation of culinary arts,” he added.

Vincent Guironnet, general manager at The Apurva Kempinski Bali, said Kadek's success was an inspiration for aspiring young chefs, and that his achievement highlighted the importance of collaboration, mentorship and a shared vision in achieving excellence on the global stage.

His journey also demonstrated the power of perseverance and the collective support of industry leaders who believed in nurturing future culinary talent, said Guironnet.

“We are incredibly proud of Kadek's remarkable achievement at the Young Talents Escoffier competition. He brought pride to Bali while showcasing the brilliance of Indonesia on the world stage,” he said.

“A special thank you to Kadek's mentors who have provided tireless guidance, to French and Indonesian government officials for blessing Kadek's journey to the finale, and to our esteemed partners, Classic Fine Foods and Yacht Sourcing, for championing Kadek's journey to success.”
