Anies campaign team denies claim by PAN vice chairman that the presidential candidate may not go through with IKN megaproject.
Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar campaign team spokesman Tatak Ujiyati has denied reports that presidential candidate Anies explicitly opposes the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) megaproject, a claim made by National Mandate Party (PAN) vice chairman Viva Yoga Mauladi.
"Until now, Anies has never expressed opposition. What he said before was indeed compliance with the law,” Tatak said on Monday, as quoted by detik.com.
Tatak argued that the president elected in the 2024 election would have no choice but to go through with Nusantara as the House of Representatives had passed a law on it.
According to Tatak, Anies merely took a critical stance toward the IKN to improve it.
"After all, the public also needs a healthy, objective and constructive exchange of opinions," he said.
"What is clear is that Anies wants the development of Indonesian cities to reflect justice and prosperity for all.”
Previously, Viva questioned Anies’ opposition to the continuation of Nusantara, a pet project of incumbent President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
