Gibran Rakabuming Raka says he aims to boost the domestic gaming industry in a recent post on his X account, claiming he’s a long-time gamer.
Vice presidential hopeful Gibran Rakabuming Raka said he would boost the Indonesian gaming industry through several posts on his X, formerly Twitter, account on Wednesday.
Gibran started his posts by saying a total of Indonesia's 17 creative industry subsectors, including the gaming subsector, had contributed Rp 1.3 quadrillion (US$83.3 billion) and employed 22 million of Indonesia's total workforce.
The 36-year-old politician then quoted data from the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry, which recorded Indonesia's gaming market value at Rp 25 trillion in 2022. However, Gibran claimed local game developers only enjoyed 0.5 percent of that amount.
"I have been gaming for a long time. I have tried many local games, so I know how extraordinary the potential of our national gaming industry is,” wrote Gibran, as quoted by jawapos.com.
“Some of them stuck with me so much, like A Space for the Unbound, which IMO has good quality and is appreciated globally. What is your favorite local game?"
Gibran continued by mentioning other game titles, including DreadOut, Potion Permit, Selera Nusantara and Lokapala, as successful examples of Indonesia's budding gaming industry.
As a closing statement, Gibran said digital downstreaming policy would boost Indonesia's gaming industry by pushing the workforce to work with local game developers.
