P

resident Prabowo Subianto wants Indonesia’s trade deal with the United States concluded by the end of the year, a senior minister has said, amid growing pressures on both sides to resolve sticking points while keeping mutual interests at the forefront.

Jakarta will send a delegation to Washington, DC next week to discuss the matter after senior officials “agreed to finalize what the two leaders agreed upon on July 22,” said Coordinating Economy Minister Airlangga Hartarto during opening remarks at the Indonesian Listed Companies Association’s (AEI) anniversary event on Friday.

“We will send a team to Washington next week, and I will [go] as well. Our office and the technical teams have been coordinating closely,” added Airlangga, who also leads Indonesia’s negotiation team.

He made the comment after speaking with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on Thursday night and later briefed Prabowo on the outcome on Friday morning.
