Vice President Ma'ruf Amin urged all elements of society to maintain a conducive environment during the pre-election silence period from Feb. 11 to 13.

"The Vice President hopes that election organizers from central to regional levels, as well as officials at the polling stations, can work professionally and sincerely during the election and vote counting," the Vice President’s spokesperson Masduki Baidlowi said on Sunday, as quoted by Antara news agency.

The pre-election quiet refers to a period designated by the government encompassing the three days between the last campaign day on Feb. 10 until the election day on Feb. 14, during which election candidates and their respective teams are barred from campaigning including through digital means.

Masduki said that Ma'ruf encouraged everyone to go to the polling stations (TPS) and vote for the candidates they believed in.

"As good citizens, you should not abstain. Don’t let anyone interfere with your choice even with the promise of money or anything else," Masduki said.

The spokesperson said that Ma'ruf hoped everyone would continue with their routines and prepare themselves for the upcoming election. He also urged everyone to refrain from sharing false and provocative news and to respect others' political choices, as he believed that differing political opinions were integral to democracy.

Masduki also conveyed the Vice President's hope that the upcoming election would proceed smoothly and safely.

"The Vice President emphasized that we are in the final stage of the election. He hopes that the election can be conducted safely, while also ensuring it is democratic, honest and fair," he said.

Marsduki said the Vice President believed that an election conducted with dignity would enhance the people's trust in the nation, thereby improving the quality of democracy in the country.
