he Iskandar Muda Military Command (Kodam) overseeing Aceh province is investigating allegations that an Indonesian Military (TNI) soldier and one civilian accomplice assaulted two local civilians, leaving them in critical condition.
"The incident is still being investigated by the Iskandar main regiment and the Military Police to determine the attacker's involvement in this incident," the command’s chief spokesman, Col. Alim Bahri, said, as quoted by CNN Indonesia.
Although Alim declined to discuss the motive behind the incident, he said the attacker would be dealt with in a manner complaint with the Army’s regulations.
"If it is proven, we will punish the attacker severely. We are still investigating this case and will provide information about any new developments," he said.
The suspect was identified as Second Sgt. DAR. He is stationed with the Iskandar Muda main regiment.
A regional command’s main regiment is responsible for training and educating all units under the command and for recruiting enlisted soldiers and non-commissioned officers.
Alim concluded his statements by apologizing on behalf of the military command for the attacker's actions.
