close aide of Prabowo Subianto has played down suggestions that the president-elect is currently engaged in intensive negotiations with coalition members over the composition of his incoming cabinet, claiming so far he was still focusing on how to fulfill his campaign promises instead.

Since he and his running mate Gibran Rakabuming Raka won the February election, Prabowo has repeatedly expressed his intention to build a bigger cabinet to ensure a more stable government.

The president-elect now has until his inauguration in October to assemble his administration, which is expected to be a contentious issue as political parties, supporter groups and individuals who have supported his presidential bid will be eager to have their say.

“How to fill the cabinet, who will be in the cabinet, how many [ministers] are in the cabinet are issues that have never been discussed so far,” Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, a senior politician from Prabowo’s Gerindra Party, said on Tuesday.

Dasco said Prabowo was still working out a plan to run programs he had promised during the election, including his free school lunch initiative, which was the centerpiece of the Prabowo-Gibran campaign.

“How we use the existing budget, the program design, including the distribution of the lunches, are still being formulated,” Dasco said.

“This is still not final and is being studied in simulations. Comparative studies are also being carried out in several countries that have successfully implemented such lunch programs,” he added.
